Today’s Special: Pride Drizzled with Self-Righteousness & A Side of Humble Pie

Merriam Webster defines humble pie as a “figurative serving of humiliation usually in the form of a forced submission, apology or retraction.” Shouldn’t a side of Humble Pie come standard with society’s main course of pride drizzled with self-righteousness? Sadly, true humility seems to have been omitted from life’s recipe of main ingredients and replaced with empty-calorie woke virtue signaling.

It’s been said that “seeing is believing.” But for the Christian who walks by faith and not by sight, praying is believing. The consistency and concentration of your prayers reveals volumes about what you believe about God. If we truly trust that God’s heart is to help us and not hurt us, love us and not condemn us, deliver us and not deny us, then why wouldn’t we seek Him in prayer for all of our concerns and needs?

In our pride, we think we are god— you know “master of my fate” and “captain of my soul”— while we futilely try to out-smart, out-maneuver, out-virtue, out-run, even out-live the consequences of our transgressions against a Holy and Righteous God. Pursuing this path only leaves us outside of God’s fellowship and purpose for our lives. James 4:6 declares that, “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
